The Beauty of Venetian Plastering
Venetian plastering is a traditional Italian technique that dates back centuries. It uses natural materials like lime putty and marble dust to create a polished stone effect on walls and ceilings. In Durham, this type of finish is becoming increasingly popular among homeowners and businesses wanting something a little different from plain painted walls. What sets Venetian plaster apart is its ability to reflect light and add depth and texture to a space. The final result is a silky-smooth surface that can be finished in a high gloss or a soft matte, depending on your preference. Unlike standard wall coverings, Venetian walls are breathable, meaning they help regulate moisture, making them suitable for older properties as well as modern homes. They’re not only stunning to look at, but practical too, giving your interiors a luxurious and long-lasting finish that truly stands out.
Perfect for Homes and Businesses Alike
Whether you’re renovating a character-filled period property or giving a modern space a fresh edge, Venetian plastering offers a versatile solution. In residential settings, it’s ideal for feature walls, fireplaces, bathrooms, and even ceilings. Its high-end look adds warmth and sophistication without being over-the-top. For commercial spaces like salons, offices, restaurants, and retail shops, Venetian walls bring a sense of professionalism and attention to detail that can elevate your brand. Because each finish is applied by hand, no two walls are the same, meaning your interior design will always have a unique flair. Plus, with a range of finishes—from smooth and mirror-like to more rustic and textured looks—you can tailor the aesthetic to suit your space perfectly. At RJ Resin, we help clients across Durham choose the right finish for their needs, offering guidance from design to completion.
Durable, Eco-Friendly, and Easy to Maintain
One of the reasons Venetian plastering has stood the test of time is its durability. Once applied and sealed, Venetian plaster becomes extremely hard-wearing and resistant to cracking. It’s ideal for high-traffic areas where standard paint or wallpaper might wear out. With the right care, Venetian walls can last for decades, making them a smart long-term investment. These finishes are also breathable and free of harmful chemicals, making them an eco-friendly choice for homes concerned with indoor air quality. At RJ Resin, we use traditional lime-based plasters that are naturally antibacterial and resistant to mould, making them especially suited to damp-prone areas like kitchens and bathrooms. Cleaning is simple too—a soft cloth and gentle cleaner are all that’s needed to keep your plaster looking its best. Thanks to their natural composition and low maintenance, Venetian plastered walls are as practical as they are beautiful.
